November 2022 ~ The Latest From Second Helpings Atlanta

Dear Friend,

Wednesday, November 16 is the Second Helpings Atlanta Day of Giving!

Our goal is to raise $80,000 toward the purchase of a new 26-foot refrigerated box truck, and here’s why:

Most of you know that our daily operations are food rescue routes that volunteers support through our 90-Minute Model. Every day, our volunteers drive their own vehicles to food donors, load up, and then drive to one of our partner agencies who distributes the food to their clients. This is the cornerstone of our work and mission.

But did you know that we lease a 26-foot refrigerated box truck so we can rescue large volume donations?

Late in 2020, we began a relationship with HelloFresh when they opened their distribution center in Newnan. They asked us to rescue their surplus meal kits and cases of fresh produce, allowing us to distribute more food to our partner agencies and enabling them to be a more sustainable company.

We were excited. But we knew we had to step up to be a great partner.

We quickly leased the truck to rescue the larger volume donations. This truck was such a necessary and valuable asset that our board voted to purchase one. We began fundraising in 2021, and today we are “in line” to have a 26-foot refrigerated box truck built and delivered in early 2023!

As rates of food insecurity have grown, so has our need to increase capacity. Our investment in a truck means we can rescue more fresh, surplus food and drive it to those who need it the most. And here’s how you can help!

With a goal to raise $80,000 toward the purchase of our own refrigerated box truck, we hope you’ll please consider donating during our Day of Giving on Wednesday, November 16.

You can help us kick off our 2022 Day of Giving by making a donation in advance to ensure we meet our fundraising goal! Give today!

Thank you for all you do for Second Helpings Atlanta and our community. We are so grateful for your support!
