Meet Josie and Paige! Our Summer ’22 Interns

Meet Josie!

Josie Schoenberg has joined the SHA team for the summer as our Operations Intern. A member of the class of 2024 at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, Josie is interning with us as part of the Principled Problem Solving Scholars Program.

When asked “Why SHA,” Josie offered, “One of my favorite things about SHA, which made me excited to apply, is how their mission combines social justice with environmental consciousness. Food rescue simultaneously supplies food to folks in need AND diverts organic matter from landfills, which is a crucial step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Talk about a win-win!.”

As our Operations Intern, Josie assists in leading our Meals with Meaning program, supports our Friday bulk produce distributions, attends operations team meetings and completes multiple food rescue routes every week. Josie has had a hand in rescuing 5,756 pounds of food so far this summer and is eager to see that impact grow!

We are very lucky to have Josie on our team for the summer!

Meet Paige!

Paige Scanlon has joined the SHA team for the summer as our Development and Marketing Intern. A member of the class of 2025 at Emory University here in Atlanta, Paige is interning with Second Helpings Atlanta as part of the Ethics and Servant Leadership Program.

As our Development and Marketing Intern, Paige is strategizing, developing, and planning a campaign for Hunger Action Month in September. Paige’s work also focuses on SalesForce database organization as well as assisting in various tasks at Meals with Meaning.

When asked “Why SHA,” Paige offered, “I am passionate about food justice because of how my own personal struggles with food have informed my compassion towards those facing food insecurity. In a perfect world, SHA would not even have to exist, but I am committed to serving the more vulnerable populations of people that need this immediate help now so that, ultimately, these systemic issues can and will be alleviated and changed.”

We are very lucky to have Paige on our team for the summer!
